Founder and designer Sally Kubo-Starr Sally founded sallbo in Tokyo in 2004 because she needed a place to express herself, her unique creativity, and to grow as a creator. She started the stationery line because she loves paper and writing letters. Her fondness for letters began because she was born to immigrant parents in Los Angeles and lived between her two cultures, the U.S. and Japan. As young child, Sally received many letters from her grandmother and other family members back in Japan. Sally's childhood memories of going to the mailbox, finding a letter addressed to her from across the Pacific, and opening it up to read the intricate Japanese language became the foundation for her passion for stationery. She hopes to share this passion with everyone. Some of Sally's favorite keepsakes from that time in her life are the letters she wrote herself and sent to her grandmother. Her grandmother saved and has shared with Sally these precious letters as over the years. As a designer, Sally designs category from sationery, handbags, clothing to baby and home. She worked with ELLE Japan, Tiffany Japan, and Ferrari Japan as well. Sally turns her elegant and playful graphic design and love of bags into her bag line and always follows her passion when creating new products. The diamond ring and chandelier motif was born out of her experience of getting engaged to her husband and as a twenty something going to friends' weddings and enjoying the celebrations of early adult life. After hitting the pavement in Tokyo with her passion and her creations, Sally established herself there sallbo, getting their products on the shelves of Isetan, Mitsukoshi, cibone, Loft, Bals Tokyo, and numerous design boutiques throughout Japan. sallbo products sell in the U.S., South Korea, Australia, and will be coming to Hong Kong soon. |
